U2

A lot of you probably read my sister Amber's blog along with this one. She recently posted about her favorite band U2. Let it be said here that this is in no way a rebuttal to her post, but something that I have wanted to post for a while.

A gift/curse I was born with was an ability to quickly form an opinion and a mouth that often runs faster than my brain. I am certain that I have offended many and I'm not necessarily sorry that some have made the choice to be offended but I do apologize for my lack of tact and overbearance at times.

With that said...

U2 is responsible for some of the most important music of our time. For me it is like a parable, sometimes its just a good melody and you can nonchalantly sing some of the lyrics while at other times you can get way emotional with the song and try to imagine the scenes they are describing. Over the past decade or so I think they have failed to live up to themselves. Sometimes you get a song that is okay or a set of lyrics that I really like but seldom if ever both anymore. Hence the love loss with present day U2. I also have a hard time with the amount of hype that often precedes an album and when singles finally start to peel off and get radio play I find myself changing the station more times than not.

Anyway here's to the U2 of yesteryear and when their music made me feel something besides annoyance.

i still like U2 but i can see your point. i feel that sometimes bands have some great years followed up by some sucky ones. maybe they will "come back." haha. but you may make amber mad with her great affinity for U2.

yes. i agree. i've really never been a huge u2 fan and i've never understood the hype surrounding them. i guess everyone's allowed to have an opinion.

Though we do really love a couple of U2 songs, I agree with you! A lot of their music sounds the same , which I guess is great if you're a huge fan.

Now the real reason for my comment is to wish Eric a HAPPY belated BIRTHDAY!!! I saw on Danielle's blog that it was this past weekend. Hope you had a fabulously fun day! Love ya Eric!!!

...Yeah, sometimes I find it hard to reconcile the right balance between music with a real purpose, or feeling with a musician who oversteps their bounds by preaching (which is a big pet peeve of mine. I think U2 is hit and miss with this, some of their songs are pure fluff and pop, and sometimes he gets too political or preachy...but Bloody Sunday-one of my favorite songs ever! He has the background to speak out on this with authority and lets be honest, they are seriously skilled when it comes to music and composition.

anyway...good post and I share your pain with the whole opinion thing.

and last of all, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I didnt know it was your Bday...nice way to celebrate, running a half marathon in freezing sleet! ;) I was proud of you guys as Tare and I drove up to SLC that morning through the blizzard...nice work
